Four Things To Do After Auto Glass Repair

Posted on

After you have a chip or crack repaired on your auto glass, there are a few things you need to remember to keep yourself as safe as possible while operating your vehicle. Chips or cracked windshield repair is a great way to extend the life of your existing windshield and save you money by avoiding the need for auto glass replacement. Here are a few things to consider if you have a windshield replacement or other auto glass repair done on your car.

Do Not Visit a Car Wash

As soon as you leave the auto glass replacement shop, it is not a good idea to drive to the local car wash to get your car sparkling again. The chemicals in the soaps used as well as the water pressure from the sprayers can interact with the glue as it is setting in the windshield installation. Going to a car wash too soon can leave you in a sticky situation and could result in more damage done to your windshield. After 24-48 hours of your windshield setting, you should be good to return to your regular car wash habits.

Be Gentle With Doors

When your windshield replacement is bonding to the vehicle, it is important to remember that you have to be gentle with your vehicle. Sudden slamming of the doors can knock it loose or break the bond of the glue and make the windshield repair a waste of money. To make sure everything works properly, just remember to be gentle with your vehicle until it has completely dried.

Roll Your Windows Down

If you are going to be driving around the same day as your auto glass repair, consider turning up your music and rolling your windows down. The less pressure inside the vehicle, the better for your windshield replacement as it bonds to the vehicle. Consider this a great opportunity to feel the wind in your hair and listen to your music as loud as you wish! After a day or two, you should be safe to return to your regular volume of tunes and drive with the windows up.

Watch Where You Drive

If you can avoid it, be sure to not drive down bumpy roads or roads with loose gravel. The more your windshield is jostled around, the more likely you are to experience damage to your new windshield installation. A rock hitting your window is how you got in this situation in the first place, so be cautious and smart while driving to keep yourself from ending up in the same position again.

If you need an auto glass repair service, contact some in your area and get your windshield fixed as soon as possible.
